Most standard oil seals have to comply with the DIN 3760 and ISO 6194 standards. Different standard types of oil seals are available that comply with these requirements.
Even though it’s better than other materials in terms of toughness and wear time, it is preferably used in dry-running applications. The salient demerit of this material is its cost.
Temperature - Just like pressure, the temperature that your oil seal will be operating in must be known so that you can choose one that can withstand the heat or cold. PTFE have the widest range of temperature, making them useful for machines who can see usage in extreme weather or elements.
When installed, the oil seal’s flexible lip is placed against the rotating shaft, and the casing is pushed into the housing for support. It is crucial that the sealing lip is lubricated to avoid overheating caused by friction.
